Aisling, Paul's daughter, graduated with a first-class honours degree in Optometry and joined Paul Connolly Opticians in September 2019. She studied at DIT (Dublin Institute of Technology) and won the Essilor Ireland award for her examination results in 2017.
Aisling has introduced modernised equipment, refurbished the practice, and added new ranges of frames and designer prescription sunglasses. She enjoys helping patients choose frames that suit their style and budget and aims to make your search for glasses enjoyable, relaxing, and effortless.
She also set up the social media pages (Instagram and Facebook) and enjoys updating them with eye health information and new frame designs.
Paul Connolly, Optometrist, has been in practice on Main Street, Cavan, for 40 years (since 1982). He has always enjoyed working to improve the sight of the local community and ensuring that any referrals to hospitals or Ophthalmologists are made within a reasonable time frame. He particularly enjoys fitting contact lenses and takes the time to provide patients with as much teaching as they need to become competent and comfortable wearers.
The combination of his years of experience and his children’s up-to-the-minute training leaves his practice well-placed to serve the needs of patients in a friendly and well-equipped environment.
The business also has links with a farm school in Burkina Faso, sub-Saharan Africa. Together with the staff of Cavan County Council and private contributors, funding has been provided for many buildings, wells, water towers, and irrigation systems.
Daire recently qualified as an optometrist from Technological University Dublin (TUD) in 2024. As a recent graduate, he plans to equip the practice with new technology and innovative ideas. He has introduced myopia control to the practice, which aims to slow the progression of myopia in young children through the use of specialised spectacles or contact lenses. Additionally, he has added new dry eye regimes and products to enhance care for patients with dry eye conditions.
Daire is the newest member of the 4th generation of Connolly optometrists and enjoys working alongside his sister and father as part of an eye care team. Together, they combine expert eye health care with professional and personalised service.
